Preservation, Restoration, Celebration
Lincoln Landmarks is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the historic structures of Lincoln County, North Carolina. With a history that reaches back to the mid-1700s, the county is rich in structures that date from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. Our mission is to document and protect our county's architectural heritage and to help educate local residents on the importance of our remaining local structures. Our goal is to engage with the local, regional and national community by organizing events, home tours, seminars, exhibits and workshops - all designed to assist in the preservation of our historic treasures for future generations.
Highlighting six early cornerstone structures as a starting point, Lincoln Landmarks is working to establish a register of participating structures, affording participating homeowners assistance and benefits, such as access to a database of qualified artisans and experts in the field of historic preservation. Additionally, we work to protect our most important structures by implementing easements and covenants for interested property owners, as well as raise funds for the renovation of local historic structures, thereby making them more accessible and beneficial to the residents of Lincoln County and beyond.
The architecture of the late 1700s and early 1800s has a lot to offer those interested in learning how artisans of a much earlier day were able to achieve such lasting beauty and quality of design, often with very simple tools and materials. Beyond that, these surviving structures tell a larger story of who we were and why that matters. Our comprehensive approach with Lincoln Landmarks is to celebrate both the product and the process of design and construction that produced these handsome homes by making them accessible for research, education, and enjoyment.
